weekly update

Jeff and Lisa Allen of Salty Lashes

We want to thank everyone for all the kind words and well wishes over on Instagram, it really means a lot to have support, so thank you! It’s been trickier than I expected to keep this pregnancy a secret. Number four is no joke when it comes to showing, wow! If you follow me on LunchPails and Lipstick you may have noticed lots of jackets, sweaters, bags, etc trying to conceal my bump. haha, so awkward when it’s been 80-90 degrees here.

We found out at 6 weeks. A missed period is usually the obvious sign, right? For me, it was how I felt. Bloated, grumpy, tired. Jeff and I knew we wanted kids together,  and this summer decided we would start trying for a baby in six months. Little did we know during a couple of those convos we were already pregnant! I told Jeff while he was working in the garage. How romantic, huh? You know what’s even better than that? I took Goldie with me to buy the pregnancy tests at the dollar store. She got a light up watch, I got 3 tests.

I feel good, I’ve had one scare that will be fine, but my doctor wants me to stay away from the gym for awhile which is really hard for me. I had been doing my normal 5 days a week lifting and just cut out plyometrics and cardio, but now I’ve been told to stay away completely for a few more weeks. We’ll see how well that goes..

Guess what?? We already know if it’s a boy or a girl! We haven’t decided if we’ll share the news anytime soon. Normally you find out through ultrasound around 18-20 weeks, but I had some blood work done that included DNA testing so we already know at 13 weeks…crazy!

Because it’s been so long since I’ve had a baby, I’m totally out of the loop on gear and products. Please email (lashes.salty@gmail.com), DM, text me your favorite brands in all things baby. I’d love to hear your suggestions and start my research! Have a great night!

P.S. In case you didn’t see the kids reaction, check it.

So exciting! My husband and I are due first week of February with our first. We are thrilled! I’d love to hear people’s suggestions of must haves because I am completely lost and overwhelmed.
Also I say keep the gender a surprise. We are 23 weeks and don’t even know ourselves! Can’t wait to have to big reveal on birth day.

The baby shusher(Amazon) and the Dohm sound machine(Amazon) have saved my nanny life at nap time! Especially with other kids in the house, they really help drown out any outside noise. When traveling, I love the sleep sheep(Pottery Barn)too! If I ever have my own kids, I will definitely be adding those to my registry! Also– if you don’t breast feed or have complications or supplement with formula– the baby Keurig aka the Baby Brezza bottle maker is a must have!

Oh my gosh Kristen, I LOVE these suggestions! The baby will share a room with Goldie so any way to drown out noise will be golden! I don’t breast feed and had no idea Keurig even made that machine! Wow, this is awesome! Thank you again! XXO lisa

Lisa, I am on the fence with breastfeeding. If you don’t mind what is your reasoning and experience with not nursing?

        • Reply Lisa & Jeff October 12, 2016 at 8:25 PM

I’m not for or against. Personal preference. I attempted with my oldest who was a premie and it was more of a challenge for both of us than I expected. I really didn’t feel strongly either way then either, so it was an easier decision to bottle feed. I’ve always pumped the first month with all three girls then bottle fed. It’s worked fine for our family. Good luck! XXO

I had my third baby (and 3rd boy) in July after a 7 year gap so I know how you feel! We love our Cybex car seat as you can lie it down flat once it’s out of the car so we can take Cole straight from car to buggy, and lie him down whilst he’s still sleeping. No disruptions or worrying about him being squashed up for too long. We have the Cybex priam pram too which is amazing – so easy to fold up with one hand and the seat and basket fold up with it too! Enjoy everything x

Hey katie! I’m checking these out now! It’s so important to keep a baby asleep. Thank you for your suggestions and congrats on baby 3! XXO lisa

Hi, Congrats! I have two girls and a boy. 16,
6 1/2 and an 8month. I know far apart. Lol. My 3rd pregnancy was completely different than my other two. I think it was because of my age 38 and because hes a boy. The whole pregnancy and delivery was different .I had that same blood test. I was so excited to know the gender way a head of time. So I could start buying things. I recommend honest Co diapers, they have cute designs and are very good. I would read reviews on things like jogging stroller, car seats, beds, high chairs, etc. Just so you know what is best for you. Congrats again on your little blessing. You have the cutest little familia.

Hi Lisa! I love your blog & IG!! I have a 7, 6 & 2 year old…so I had to rebuy everything with my last babe! I loved the HALO swivel bassinet to keep baby close at night for those first few months! I found “tommy tippee” bottles mimic the breast the most. Also, lectrofan noise machine sounds like a real fan! So excited to watch your journey! Hugs! Xo!

I love all this info! Thank you Karah! I’m looking up the HALO now. Thanks for taking the time to share your advice. It’s greatly appreciated. XXO lisa

Yay, so excited for you guys Lisa! Can’t wait to hear if it’s a boy or girl. Having 3 girls in a row, I really didn’t buy much this time. I did get the mamaroo and love it, it’s supposed to mimic being in utero. Ruby was an awful sleeper for the first month or two and would only sleep if she was being held (or thought she was being held) and it saved my sanity. I also love Halo sleepsacks, so easy and they stay swaddled all night and they’re ergonomic … I’m all about healthy hips. The Tula carrier and I still love my UppaBaby Vista stroller that I’ve had since 2010. You can’t beat the BOB for running too. Hope you’re feeling good!

I totally recommend a fisher price rock and play. We had one with our second and he slept like a DREAM in it. It is so portable and easy to carry around the house or travel with when they are little. In fact, my little got sick when he was two weeks old and we spent a couple of weeks in the hospital. We brought it to the hospital with us and he even slept great in the hospital in it.
