Yesterday we celebrated Ozzy turning ONE! Ozzy has been the best addition to our family. I’ve talked about this several times, but I was pretty nervous about the age gap with my kids and adding another girl to the mix.
It’s been so much fun to watch the kids develop their own relationship with her. One thing that is often said to me ” must be nice to have built in babysitters “. That would be nice, but I don’t expect that of my kids. I do my best to let Avery and Poppy be teenagers and not additional moms to Ozzy. They parent Goldie enough on their own;) Don’t get me wrong, they for sure help out, a lot. I just try not to put any expectations on them other than their normal chores and responsibilities. I think because the expectation isn’t there, they enjoy being big sisters more.
Honestly I think the biggest change has been for Goldie. Going from being the center of attention for 7 years to adding Ozzy, she has moments where she is jealous and needs some extra time with me. Poppy went through the same thing when Goldie was born. I think it’s pretty normal. When I sense Goldie needs more, she does one on one dates with me. More than anything she just wants to feel safe, heard and loved, as all kids do.
There’s no right or wrong way to be a good parent. I just try and do my best and share what works for my family. Or maybe is isn’t working, I’ll let you know in a few years:)
What We Love About Ozzy Girl
GOLDIE:
I love Ozzy because she’s really playful and she’s kind and sometimes she is funny. When I am a big sister I know I should keep my promises so when Ozzy is older she will know she can trust me. My favorite thing about Ozzy is that she loves everyone and is a fast learner. The most annoying thing about Ozzy is when she has to go to bed because I want to keep playing with her.
POPPY:
I didn’t realize how cute everything little thing she did was until she was born. Ozzy will do the simplest thing, like smiling for example or lift one finger when we ask her how old she is Every time its adorable.
AVERY:
I didn’t realize how much i missed having a baby around the house until Ozzy was born. Now that Poppy and I are older we can help out a little more and we will be able to remember all of the moments that we were too young to remember with Goldie. She is the sweetest baby. She almost never cries, and she’s so curious and always looking for new things to learn.
POPPY : TOP – JEANS (wearing a 24 ) – VANS – SCRUNCHIES
GOLDIE : JUMPER – BIRKENSTOCKS
OZZY : ROMPER – BOW – BRACELETS

I know the feeling Goldie girl. My litte “not so little any more” is also seven years younger- with a kid crazy how time flys. I love how you take her on dates. I have one child at the moment and four sisters. One day possibly 4 or 5 kids if possible. I love watching other moms and figuring out my own path. My mom never expected us to or to be called a “in house baby sister,” I also don’t like that term. Lisa you are doing a wonderful job as a mother keep it up. I can tell because of how happy Ozzy is and you crack me up when you joke about your kids taking forever in a store or whatever. I truly enjoy follow you.
haha, bur really. it’s like watching paint dry letting Goldie pick something from a grocery store.
I love this post and you sharing your thoughts on having older siblings babysit. My sister and I were 15 years apart so my parents expected me to babysit her. I hold no hard feelings now about it but I remember as a teenager being angry that I was forced to give up some of my own time to watch her. I think it is great your giving your kids time to BE KIDS and I plan on doing the same with my 7 year old and my son on the way!
I love hearing that and congrats!
