Did you know Goldie hasn’t touched any nut butters in 4 years? When she was little she wanted peanut everything, everyday. She loved pb toast, peanut butter & jelly, pb granola bars, cereal, etc. She LOVES peanut butter. Then one day after pre-school she complained she couldn’t swallow very well while eating a pb&j. I assumed she was getting sick or being dramatic. The next day, the same thing happened. The day after still requesting peanut butter and me not thinking her throat was related to an allergy, her throat closed up and she couldn’t breath very well. I took her straight the doctor and they let me know Goldie was allergic to peanuts.
We are very lucky her allergy is not severe. In fact, the doctor says she can easily grow out of this allergy. Even though she was told her allergy is only peanut related, we have been too nervous to give her any nuts. Then…I started reading more about SunButter! SunButter (sunflower butter) is free from the top 8 food allergens: peanuts, tree nuts, soy, dairy, eggs, wheat, fish and shellfish.
This week is National Food Allergy Awareness Week
Childhood food allergies are on the rise, according to FARE. 15 million Americans have food allergies, including 8% of children under 18. That means roughly 1 in every 13 children have food allergies. Because of the alarming statistics, food companies have created a lot of great tasting products, like SunButter! Have you tried it? Our family is hooked! With just as much protein, more micronutrients plus less saturated fat than peanut and almond butters, you know you are making a smart choice for your whole family!
Goldie is so happy she can take the mini cups in her school lunch now! I personally think SunButter tastes sweeter than other nut butters. Since doing this photoshoot we have bought 3 more jars for our family. I found ours at Target. You can also find SunButter at specialty grocery stores. Everyone loves it!
